The Yourope (European Festivals Association) 20th Anniversary Dinner brought together over 100 festival managers, directors, producers, promoters and agents from across Europe to Wandsworth. The group originated at the ILMC (International Live Music Conference) with a locus of passionate individuals from disparate festivals wishing to work together for the good of festivals across Yourope. Under the guidance of Christof Huber this contemporary iteration has spawned not only a group delivering good practice across the continent but also offshoots in sustainability led by Holger Schmidt (Das Fest), legal matters through Ben Challis (Glastonbury) and Health & Safety facilitated by Chris Kemp (Mind Over Matter) and Henrik Bondo Nielsen (Roskilde).
The awards were a complete surprise with the original board being awarded them for their service to the European festival industry and Holger, Ben, Chris and Henrik for their passion and service to their particular areas over the last 20 years.
The group is not just a festival talking shop but a community of practice that work together to get things done. The YES group, the Yourope Event Safety Group has carried out 25 seminars, a range of panels and conference presentations as well as helping festivals with their health, safety and crowd management issues. The Sustainability area through the Go group has been instrumental in delivering sustainable festivals across Europe. Ben Challis has been instrumental in creating standard terms and conditions across European festivals.
Under the guidance of Christof Huber, the Yourope Board has taken festival developments and good practice to new heights and Chris was proud to have been awarded such a prestigious honour.
