ILMC - crowd disorder discussion

An increase in crowd disorder and unruly behaviour has been reported at live events since the pandemic.

This issue is complex and was recently discussed by the ‘Venue’s Venue’ panel at the International Live Music Conference (ILMC) in London.

Our CEO, Professor Chris Kemp, suggested that…

“This is about an audience recovering from the immense impact and emotional challenges caused by a pandemic…”

“…fans who had bought tickets pre-Covid were attending the rescheduled shows “in a completely different mindset” and were harder to impress and less patient as a result.”

“We’ve also seen a concomitant rise in challenges in society, and […] the recognition of autism, Tourette’s, ADHD and other, often hidden, conditions…That’s been quite an interesting development, alongside difficulties with mental health.”
